Day 61 – Birthday Gift

For her one-month birthday, the Little Monster had a party, complete with roast pig. Unfortunately, her second birthday was not as festive. We had to take her for her immunization shots.

I was dreading the day already as I am not a big fan of needles myself. After she got weighed and measured, the nurse asked us some questions about the pregnancy and her overall health. Then came the needles!

She had three needles to cover the usual childhood illnesses and then an extra one for Hepatitis B because Jack was born in Laos. He steadied her as the nurse stuck these super long needles in her legs (two in each side). Elle’s face turned bright red as she started to wail and wail and wail. As the nurse prepped her second leg for the shots, she anticipated the needle and started crying even before she felt anything. My heart was breaking, watching her in so much pain. :(

If she were able to eat, I would give her the biggest ice cream cone to make her feel better. Thank goodness the next shots aren’t until she is four months old.

Day 55 – Pains of Motherhood

Today as I was reaching to pick up the Little Monster, my wrists started to hurt. Kind of like in a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome kind of way. I didn’t think this was possible, so I Googled it, as I do whenever I have a “stupid question.” Yep, I’m not the only one with this problem… it’s sometimes referred to as “baby wrist” or “mother’s thumb.”

Crazy, isn’t it? Who would have thought that carrying a baby repeatedly would cause bodily harm?

Now that I think of it, my tailbone hasn’t felt quite the same since labour either…
