September 23, 2011 – Another Bad Haircut

My baby is so cute she can even pull off the “Dumb and Dumber” haircut!

She looks like a cute little pixie.

July 3, 2011 – Zits

My baby is giving me zits. :(

May 27, 2011 – Expensive Taste

Baby was leafing through my magazines and ripped out a Louis Vuitton ad. Should I be worried?

January 29, 2011 – L-O-V-E

I don’t know how it’s possible, but I love her more and more each day.

This baby who didn’t exist (outside my womb) a year ago is now such an integral and important part of our lives. We can’t imagine what life was like without her…

A friend once told me that you never truly experienced what love felt like until you had a baby. She said it would be an entirely different kind of love than you would have for your spouse, and I guess she’s right!

Day 196 – First Encounter with Santa

Today at the company Christmas party, the Little Monster had her first encounter with Santa. Unlike other children, she did not cry when she was placed on Santa’s lap. Nor was she especially friendly. Instead, she became overly occupied by the Christmas tree immediately next to her.

We’ve noticed that while Elle is sometimes social, she rarely interacts with the person who is holding her, Santa included. I guess next time he’ll have to be a bit more jolly to impress our Little Monster.

Day 159 – Big Head

Today I had to put away another brand-new shirt with a too-small head hole. The Little Monster has a regular-sized head (small, even). Why do clothing manufacturers continue to make clothes with teeny tiny head holes?

Day 2 – Likes and Dislikes

The more time we spend with the Little Monster, the more we learn about her. She likes little hats (at least my husband thinks she does, as she is never without one). She hates being cold, so she inherently dislikes diaper changes as well. She doesn’t like to sleep very much at night. But she loves to nap during the day, especially when there are visitors anxious to play with her. (I still believe she is feigning sleep when the in-laws are over.)

I’m also learning a lot about myself. That I don’t do well with change, but I am adapting. Adapting to sleepless nights, new roles and responsibilities, and my changing identity (still working on that one).

I used to be a girl who wrote for a living, loved to play cards and shop for purses. Now I spend most of my time feeding and changing diapers, playing with my daughter and shopping for her clothes.

I used to hate those people who couldn’t talk about anything but babies and diapers and poo. Now I suspect I am one of “those people.” Sorry, guys. :)

Introducing the Little Monster

I haven’t written a while, mostly because I haven’t had anything specific to blog about, and also because I’ve been busy. I’ve spent the last year and a half working, travelling, helping to create the fabulous Babybot, and being pregnant.

Being pregnant was a crazy time, and being a mom is even crazier. I have so many thoughts these days about things both big and small and would love to get them off my chest (which has also changed, but more on that later).

So I’m taking a different slant… instead of my random rants and musings, I will wax poetic about the highs and lows of being a mom to our newborn daughter, whom we affectionately refer to as the “Little Monster.”

She’s pretty awesome and I’m learning new stuff every day from her. Hopefully she’ll be able to entertain you as well. :)
