Woke up to the sound of my baby’s laughter and a stuffed bunny shoved in my face. It’s gonna be a good day.

February 4, 2011 – I <3 TV
29Sep11Okay, my baby knows how to use the remote control better than I do.
She may not know how to walk or talk, but she can program the TiVo. Go figure.
Day 220 – The Bowl Cut
13Jan11Today, I gave the Little Monster the equivalent of a bowl cut. I didn’t mean to, but her bangs were growing so so long, and her back was, well, still bald. So I started trimming the sides, then the front, to make everything a bit more even. Voila! Bowl cut!
Now I’ll have to dress her up in more pink so that strangers know that she’s a girl…
Day 162 – The Cereal Dilemma
13Jan11Today I faced one of many new mom dilemmas. While I was eating breakfast, the Little Monster started crying. A lot. Normally, I would attend to her right away, but I had just poured milk into my bowl of cereal.
Now, I have gotten used to eating cold food. It’s almost a given these days. I am willing to feed/change/put my daughter to sleep before I eat, even if it means my dinner getting cold. (It’s pretty hard to enjoy a meal while scarfing down your food and trying to ignore a screaming baby.)
But cold cereal? Rice Krispies cereal that goes soggy within minutes if you don’t eat it? I’ll admit, I won’t get the Mom of the Year award today…
Day 158 – Halloween
13Jan11We didn’t have a Halloween costume for the Little Monster this year. After all, she can’t walk and doesn’t eat food yet. If we went trick-or-treating, the candy would just be for us… hey… wait a minute…
However, to get in the mood, she did wear a little hat with bunny ears as she greeted the many visitors to our door. It was funny to watch her expression as she tried to figure out the concept of Halloween. Why are all these children at our door yelling? And why are we giving them our food?
Day 136 – Real Life?
13Jan11Today I had a dream that I was back at work. Thankfully, the baby woke me up (phew!).
Day 75 – Mat Leave
10Sep10When on mat leave (and while your husband is off work), a Monday can feel the same as a Saturday. Your routine is the same, there isn’t anywhere you really need to be, and you go to bed around the same time.
This particular Sunday I was thinking about all the poor saps that had to go back to work the next day, and then I was really glad that I didn’t have to. I’ve gotten used to spending the day at home or the mall or wherever we ended up going, and not having to be anywhere at any particular time, or do anything except take care of the house and ourselves.
I don’t use my alarm clock anymore, but every morning I wake up to the cries of the Little Monster. Unfortunately, she does NOT have a “Snooze” button.
It’s taken some time to get used to mat leave, but now I can say that I really enjoy it and am glad to be at home with my little girl.
Day 15 – Groundhog Day
07Jul10Have you ever seen the movie Groundhog Day? I still think having a baby is a lot like that, at least at first. Each day is very similar to the last – eat, sleep, poo, eat, sleep, poo. And although the day is the same as before, you try to make it that much better. You learn from your mistakes. You try new things, making little adjustments that may or may not help. And maybe, just maybe, if you can have a perfect day then it will be all good.
