Well, I’ve done it. After days of trying to avoid coughing, sneezing or even breathing on her, I finally gave the Little Monster my cold. I felt terrible as she was all stuffed up last night and had to take short breaths through her mouth while feeding. We used some saline drops to help clear things out, so hopefully it goes away by itself. She doesn’t seem to be affected by it otherwise.
And if that weren’t bad enough, I traumatized her again with the Vitamin D drops. They are very sweet smelling like candy, so she laps them up every time I give them to her. Oftentimes her eagerness leads to the drops going down the wrong pipe, and then I watch in horror as she chokes, coughs and spits it back up. I’m always thinking I should take some sort of baby CPR class whenever she does that – it’s scary!
Days like this I have to take a breather and remind myself that I’ll eventually get better at being a mom. Just as I had to work at being a better writer or a poker player, I’ll improve at this too.
